Aesthetic results can be thwarted by the appearance of stretched skin
The list of physical benefits to getting your body in shape and maintaining a healthy diet can be almost endless. Between having a longer lifespan, improved heart health, and less physical pain in the joints, it can also lower your risk of diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Loose skin can occur when the skin is stretched from weight or pregnancy, but remains stretched after the baby is born or after excessive weight loss.
Losing weight can often come with a confidence boost, and even losing a few pounds is enough to boost a person’s self-esteem. However, for many people who lose a lot of weight, these aesthetic results can be hindered by the appearance of sagging skin.
Loose skin can occur when the skin is stretched from weight or pregnancy, but remains stretched after the baby is born or after excessive weight loss. This has led many Canadians to travel to Toronto or other Canadian cities to have a tummy tuck to correct the appearance of sagging skin.
Is Loose Skin Temporary?
In more moderate cases of post-pregnancy weight loss or stretching, sagging skin can often be temporary and can be both prevented and corrected through the use of oils and lotions to keep the skin hydrated and supple.
“Loose skin can be permanent with more extreme stretching or dramatic weight loss and may require surgical removal.”
In weight loss in particular, when the weight loss is slow and gradual, that is, no more than 2 pounds per week, the skin often contracts with the body during weight loss. However, with extreme stretching or dramatic weight loss, sagging skin can be permanent and require surgical removal.
Problems that occur with sagging skin
People with sagging, sagging skin on their tummies often report problems with self-confidence and embarrassment about how they look. It can be especially frustrating for those who have achieved dramatic weight loss as it can hide their results under the loose layer of sagging skin.
In more severe cases of sagging skin, physical problems can arise that lead to problems such as chafing and inflammation as moisture becomes trapped between the folds of the skin and rubs against each other. In these cases in particular, skin removal operations such as a tummy tuck are often required to provide relief.

What is a tummy tuck?
The tummy tuck, also called a tummy tuck, is a cosmetic procedure in which a cosmetic surgeon removes excess skin from the abdominal region. It does this by making incisions in the abdominal region, usually in a discrete location along the hip bones, and lifting the skin so it is firmer, smoother, and contoured along the body. In some cases, this also means reconstructing the belly button to re-center on the abdomen. Excess skin is then removed, resulting in a firmer and flatter stomach.
Tummy tuck is often confused with liposuction, although it is a completely different procedure. Liposuction is a cosmetic operation that involves removing stubborn and unwanted underlying fat cells from the body in order to use suction to smooth the appearance under the skin. Skin tension can be left untouched during liposuction, and likewise the underlying fat can be left untouched during a tummy tuck.
However, these two procedures can and often can be done together to achieve the best end result.
