All 24,000 applicants whose qualifying time met the original standard will be admitted to the 2022 Boston Marathon, the Boston Athletic Association said on Thursday.
For the first time since 2013, all runners who meet their qualification time and whose times have been checked by the BAA will be admitted to the race on April 18, 2022. Due to the size of the field, the runners had to submit 7 minutes and 47 seconds faster than the BAA qualification times . This 7:47 advantage was the largest in the history of the race.
“I am pleased to announce that anyone who has applied with a valid qualifying time will be able to compete in the 126th Boston Marathon,” said Tom Grilk, President and CEO of BAA, in a statement. “It will be a historic return to Patriots Day and I am excited to welcome this dedicated group of qualifiers.”
During a five-day time window in early November, almost 24,000 runners submitted their times that qualified them for the 2022 marathon. These times are now being checked by the BAA; Applicants will receive an official letter of admission at the beginning of December.
